Want to do the very best thing for the health of your cat?

Four things; make your own food, clean the litter box very day, and use the brushless water additives for their teeth, have pet insurance.

Grooming

*The Siberian has a triple coat of fur. On the under side (belly area) you will find that the fur is curly.

*Siberians need to be brushed at least once a week or checked for matted hair. When they are shedding their coats during sping a nd fall they need to be brushed daily or at least checked for mats. Dry air, during winter, can also make them mat because the salvia from cats grooming themselves makes the fur wet. In dry air this can cause matting as it dries.

*You will find that most of the matting will occur behind the ears, under the fore legs (what would the arm pit on a human), and in the rear- near the private areas.

*If your Siberian gets matted hair it is important that you detangle it. Matted hair cuts off the cat's circulation. It is also painful to the cat because the hair puls at the skin.

*Your local pet shop will have grooming combs/brushes for cats. Wired grooming brushes hurt the animal. They will also remove the undercoats of hair that a Siberian has. A soft brush will not penatrate the triple coat. The rolling comb however, is most the effective. You can cut off the tangled hair, but it must be done carefully so that you do not cut the cat's skin too. If you elect to cut off any matted hair, use a pair of hair scissors. To avoid cutting the skin always try to cut perpendicular to the skin and always have a comb betwen the skin and the scissors. There are also detangling tools that you can purchase. Sometimes dry air will make a cat mat more than usual.

*Then there is the Furminator for cats.

*Omega 3-6-9 fatty acids and keeping your pet parasite free are the most effective way to help your cat to stop shedding between those spring and fall molts. Omega 3-6-9 fatty acids and keeping your pet parasite free will make your kittie's coat shine and be soft. They are found in eggs. Eggs are an important part of fur that does not shed a lot.

*There are sprays that will help stop tangling and make the fur soft and fluffy. This can be a great help during the dry winter days.

This site also has grooming info and many other helpful products for cats.

*Hairballs can be a problem at times. Laxatone is a flavored gel that cats like. It dislodges hairball. Laxatone can be found at nay pet shop and on-line. It has a nice Tuna flavor. Just put a small amount on th side of your kitties mouth.
